ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES A VETERINARY HOUSE CALL LOOK LIKE?

Veterinary house calls refer to veterinary services provided in the comfort of a pet owner's home rather than in a veterinary clinic. These services can include routine check-ups, vaccinations, diagnostic testing, and even emergency care. House calls can be beneficial for pets who experience stress or anxiety when visiting a clinic or for owners who have difficulty transporting their pets. They also offer the convenience of not having to leave home, especially for elderly or disabled owners. Additionally, house calls allow veterinarians to observe pets in their natural environment, which can provide valuable insights into their behavior and health. Overall, veterinary house calls offer a personalized and convenient approach to veterinary care.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE APPOINTMENT?

Appointments typically range from 30 to 90 minutes. This is a completely individual experience—you should take as much or as little time as you need at each stage. The first step is to go through some paperwork to make sure the doctor has accurate information about you and your pet’s medical history. Next is a physical exam and some head scratches with the doctor! Any recommended treatments, medications, or diagnostics will be discussed thoroughly with you beforehand and performed to your preference.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

All prices will be quoted to you either at the time of booking or during the consultation. The goal of concierge medicine is to charge set rates and then take care of the logistics for you so that you can focus on quality time with your pet. Any diagnostics, treatments, or procedures will be quoted to you before they are performed. You are guaranteed a pleasant and smooth experience without the hassle of extra fees.

WHY DON’T YOU WORK WITH THIRD-PARTY ONLINE PHARMACIES LIKE CHEWY?

Dallas Veterinary Concierge doesn’t participate in third-party pharmacy fulfillment programs where pricing and dispensing are maintained outside of the veterinary-client-patient relationship. Large online retailers can offer deep discounts that veterinary practices aren’t designed to compete with—and my focus isn’t on winning a price war.

When prescriptions are filled through my in-house pharmacy or my approved online pharmacy, medications are automatically documented in your pet’s medical record. This allows for accurate tracking of dosing, refills, and—most importantly—monitoring for potential drug interactions as pets age and may require multiple medications. Third-party pharmacies do not update medical records, which can create gaps in care and increase medical risk over time.

Concierge care means more time, closer oversight, and a higher level of accuracy and accountability. While this may come with a modest additional cost, it ensures your pet’s medications are prescribed and monitored by someone who knows their full medical history and is actively involved in their care.

I understand that every client has different priorities and financial considerations. In select hardship situations, I may offer flexibility on a case-by-case basis. However, if a client’s primary goal is finding the lowest possible medication price through large retailers, my practice may not be the best fit—and that’s okay.

My priority is providing thoughtful, individualized care and maintaining the highest standard of medical oversight for my patients. I’m always happy to discuss medication options or answer any questions you may have.

WHICH PET SPECIES DO YOU CARE FOR?

While we usually work with cats and dogs, it’s not uncommon for us to work with all species, other than humans! We are happy to see exotic pets and farm animals. Weather permitting, we can even work outside as needed. Give our team a call or get in touch with us to discuss your pet’s needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
